Summer at home by Lyra Carter

I can’t pretend I spend my summers staying far from home.
Foreign places and strange countries, I have never roamed.
But with warm sand and water shifting underneath my feet,
I see these are the summer joys that I intend to meet.
The sticky sweet mint ice cream dripping down my chin.
The chatter of the out-of-staters is a most familiar din.
So no, there’s no Hawaii, England, Czech, or Rome,
but I can proudly say, I spend my summers home.

Lyra Carter is a rising senior in high school. She has big plans to persue a career in art and creativity in whatever way she can. She is an author, glass artist, animator, and collector of hobbies.
