Don’t Let It Win

Can you hear it? The whispers that sink into your skin, words that feel like they’re burning, scathing, reaching inside of yourself to breathe life and then rip it out. It will ruin you, the way it seeps into every ounce of your being. How it holds you, promising you things you know will never unravel into reality.

I can hear it. I know the way it plays with your heart like an old friend, the assurances it utters before plunging you into oblivion. Don’t fall for their obvious lies. Although it knows how to play you like a symphony, you have to remember the light within will always speak to you with the love and kindness you deserve. Never forsake it, even when the light grows dimmer. You are the only one who can bring yourself to listen.
