What do I look forward to? – Blog Post #8
Prompt: What do you look forward to every week?

I don’t think I look forward to anything every week…
I don’t look forward to time off work, because that just means more time for my brain to take over (which never ends well).
I don’t look forward to work. It’s tedious and often boring.
I don’t look forward to meals. The food served to the guards isn’t bad, but it isn’t the best either. I also struggle to find foods I like as well since my diet is a little odd due to my preferences, cultural restrictions, and upbringing.
I don’t look forward to meeting and interacting with other guards. I don’t really have any friends to hang out with. I’m a loner, only interacting with others when necessary.
I don’t look forward to bedtime. Though I love sleeping, I struggle to fall asleep and the time leading up to finally falling asleep is full of my thoughts and the horrible things they say to me.
I guess if I look forward to anything every week, it would be reading about other towns and cultures of this world. That is the only real interest I have and the only thing I tend to indulge in in my free time. Where I wasn’t able to travel and learn about other cultures in person when I was younger and can’t travel to learn now, learning about other places and cultures by reading books is the only way I can satisfy my curiosity. One of my favorite books so far is about the culture of some of the shifter communities in northern Trolsk. Some of their traditions, rituals, and customs are so different from those here at the Palace and from where I grew up. Their approach to medicine, how it caters to the nature of a shifter’s body, how their social hierarchies and communities are structured, and the differences in shifter communities of the same region depending on the type of shifters they are (for example, the social structures for wolven shifters are different from the social structures for rabbit shifters that live in the same area) are really fascinating to learn about.
I only have limited access to these kinds of books so I try to make them last as long as I can, often rereading them several times. I’ve tried to collect as many books as I can, but it’s a little difficult. I have heard some other people talk about the Palace Library and how there is such a large selection of books, ranging from so many different topics. It sounds interesting but sadly only higher-ups, nobility, and royalty can access it.
Where I have such a limited library myself and can’t buy new books often due to my schedule and salary, I limit my reading to usually half to one book a week. I don’t want to read them all to the point I find them boring so I try to spread them out and rotate which one I read.
I hope I can get more books soon and, someday, visit the Palace Library.

Hello!
The main thing I struggled with for this prompt was figuring out what happens in their daily life that they might look forward to and what they wouldn’t. I haven’t sat down and gone into what their day-to-day life looked like before Andrew and Camilla joined the guards, which is when the response for this prompt is set. I tried to think of the main things their average week would entail and what other people would look forward to.
I hope you enjoyed! See you next week!
