Sunrise – Blog Post #7

Prompt: Write about a time you watched the sunrise.

Lux’s age: 25

CW: Polyamorous Relationship

I have seen the sunrise several times, but the most memorable time must be when Andrew, Aurora, Camilla, and I went on a trip about a year ago.

We were on our way to a town on the other side of the kingdom to help them deal with some bandits. The path we were following traveled along the top of a cliff along the sides of multiple mountains. We were a little over halfway there when the sky started to darken our second day so we had to stop to rest for the night. We weren’t close to an inn so we moved to the side of the path and set up our little shelter against the rocky wall, setting things up so that we were overlooking the land beyond the cliff before us.

We started a fire from stray branches from trees that grew along the side of the mountain just as the sky went black and stars started to appear and made dinner. We ate our beef and rice stew as we sat and chatted around the fire. We moved into our shelter and cuddled together under the blanket of our makeshift bed, in hopes of getting enough sleep before we had to wake up early the next morning. Aurora and Andrew, who were snuggled up between Camilla and me, fell asleep almost as soon as their heads hit the pillow. It took a little longer for Camilla and me to fall asleep, though for different reasons: Camilla was more on edge about making sure we were safe and wasn’t going to fall asleep until everyone else was (which is how she usually is, especially when we aren’t home) while I was being kept up by my insomnia.

We quietly chatted about random things for a little while, mentioning how cute and beautiful our partners were more than once. We both played with Aurora and Andrew’s hair as we spoke. With her free hand, Camilla reached over Aurora and Andrew and placed her hand on my side, rubbing lazy, soothing circles into my skin. It didn’t take long after that for sleep to claim me for the next few hours.

I was the first one to wake that morning, a beam of sunlight glaring through my eyelids. I slowly blinked awake but didn’t sit up, not wanting to disturb the others, especially since I wasn’t sure who was awake at this point. After a few moments, after noticing the others weren’t moving and that their breathing was that of when they are asleep, I lifted my head and looked at their faces, bathed in the early morning light and shadow. I smiled as I looked at them, then, still with my head raised, looked out off the cliff.

The sun was just starting to peak out over the horizon, bathing the hills, fields, forests, and the rocky bottoms of floating islands in golden light. Sunbeams refracted through the jellyfish floating through the air, making them appear to glow. My breath caught at the beauty of the sight before me, a few of the glowing jellyfish floating closer to us.

I don’t know how long I was staring at the view or when I sat up, but the next thing I remember is feeling arms wrapping around my waist and a groggy groan by my ear. I turned my head and looked at Andrew, his cheek resting on my upper arm and sleep still in his half-lidded eyes. Aurors and Camilla are awake as well, sitting up directly beside andrew, Aurora’s legs pressed against Andrew’s as she leans into Camilla, both of them still groggy with sleep. All three of them smiled at me and Camilla’s gravelly voice slipped through the air.

“Good morning, Love.”

Hello!

I really enjoyed writing this prompt response! I had a lot of fun writing and revisiting some of the aspects of this world. That was something I struggled with a little as well. I have yet to write much about the world here (how it has floating islands, sea creatures living in the sky, etc.) so I was a little worried that it would seem really out of place and jarring. I tried to make it seem as natural for this world as I could, though I have a feeling that it will still be a little jarring for those who don’t know anything about this world (basically everyone who reads this, lol).

I hope you enjoyed seeing a little bit more of this world! See you next week!
