Lies are frowned upon, yet they are alive and well in the lives of every person in America, experienced every day whether we realize it or not. The most commonly heard comes as the answer to, “How are you?” More often than not, people do not reveal how they are truly feeling when asked that question, it’s typically responded with “good”. Why is that? Are we merely withholding from those around us? Are we afraid to get closer to, get vulnerable with each other? As a human species, we are innately emotional and communicative, so what drives the apprehension to connect with one another? Through pieces varying in genre I will use Living with Lies to explore the reasons humans lie, why some lying is acceptable compared to others, and the root to distancing ourselves from connection.
