our hero

by Milt Montague

we sit calmly
in the eye of the storm
the maelstrom swirls around us
the press is aroused and the television
screams about THE BREAKING NEWS constantly

yet nothing of consequence
happens as the problem intensifies
we are heading into a destructive black hole
which will destroy our country and then the world

we need a great hero to show both opponents a
peaceful road to resolve this potential crisis
and save our civilization from death

there’s still time to defuse this bomb
before it explodes in our face

Milt Montague is a native newyorker,  survived The Great Depression, public school system, World War 2, college, marriage, several businesses, helped raise 3 lovely daughters.  Discovered writing at 88.  Now at 94 has almost 200 published poems.
