The New Editors of Spring 2018

A new season is here, and with it comes a new wave of submissions along with the introduction of the Spring 2018 editors.  We’re both looking forward to publishing new work and sharing our own blog posts, and very excited about what’s in store for The River.

Willy Doehring is a senior at the University of Maine at Farmington and will be graduating at the end of this semester. Since elementary school he knew he was very interested in writing, and even before he heard of UMF he knew that he wanted to major in creative writing.  He began school as a Creative Writing major and never looked back, winning an award for excellence in 2017.  He spends much of his free time playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons and Magic: the Gathering, both of which he has been playing for years.  He is a 3rd degree black belt in Shaolin Kempo Karate and while other commitments have prevented him from being actively involved in martial arts of late they will always remain a part of his life.

Gail Bello is a Junior Creative Writing major who began at the University of Maine, Farmington in 2015. Last semester, she added a Theater minor. She discovered she enjoyed writing in fourth grade during her first ever poetry unit when she wrote a haiku and it made her fellow classmate smile. However, for the longest time she thought she was going to be an Egyptologist. In her time as a UMF student, Gail has been an active participant in  the UMF Writer’s Guild in which she is the event’s coordinator and Student Theater UMF. This semester she is thrilled to be cast in this Spring’s main stage production.

More information on the editors of The River (as well as the editors of The Sandy River Review) can be found on “The Editors” page of the site.  Our first submission post will be published next week!
