Six Months

It’s a long drive in the heat

windows down, radio off

no distractions but the river

and a cigarette every forty miles

Six months left to get through

and not a cloud in the sky

remembering their last time together

outside, with the rain blowing sideways

sheltering under an awning

and laughing.
